This assignment has three parts. You’ll complete two simple activities, then write a short reflection on what you learned from the two activities.
1. Visit the News Literacy Project website and take the 12-question News Literacy Quiz: https://newslit.org/get-smart/news-lit-quiz/
Make note of any questions that you miss and any answers that surprise you. Record your results (X correct/12 questions).
2. Find a news story on any topic on any news website you choose. Copy and paste the exact URL of the news story to include in your reflection. Evaluate the news story you chose using the Questions for Fake News Detection pdf included here.
3. Reflect on your current level of media literacy based on insights you gained by completing these two activities. Write a short (150-250 word) response summarizing these reflections. Use correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation. You may copy and paste the response into this assignment or upload a Word document as an attachment. Be sure to include (a) your results on the news literacy quiz and (b) the URL for the news story you evaluated along with whether you consider the story trustworthy based on your evaluation.
